I often get asked what is there to do in The Valley of The Sun? So I figured I would write a post about all of the great places to visit when you are in The Phoenix Metro Area. Of course, a lot of these will be for when our weather is nice (so from October til May). During our hot months we basically live in pools or lakes. Here are some of my favorite places to take guests when they are in town.
Drive up to Canyon Lake and take the Dolly Steamboat tour https://dollysteamboat.com/ then afterward drive 2 more miles to Tortilla Flat and have a late lunch or get ice cream. They usually have live music on the weekends.
Goldfield Ghost town has shopping, saloon, cowboy shoot out, mine tours, zipline and even a jeep tour through the desert. http://goldfieldghosttown.com/
Go horseback riding at San Tan Regional Park https://mdranchllcaz.com/ then stop at San Tan Flat for lunch https://www.santanflat.com/
Take a tour of the Olive Mill https://www.queencreekolivemill.com/ or go to Schnepf Farms https://schnepffarms.com/
Visit Desert Botanical Gardens and see the featured exhibit of the year (or las noches de las luminarias during the holiday season) or the Phoenix Zoo is right next door https://www.phoenixzoo.org/
There is a mystery castle at the base of South Mountain http://www.mymysterycastle.com/ if you go in the afternoon you could always hit up Rustler’s Rooste for an early dinner and see the sunset over the valley which is pretty spectacular https://www.rustlersrooste.com/
Top Golf https://topgolf.com/us/gilbert/ Main Event https://www.mainevent.com/specials/1499-all-you-can-play/?gclid=CjwKCAiA6Y2QBhAtEiwAGHybPatfWB4P5etttBAXXBzLvqTXUiRlM70OkukwEkPS7apNDPlivvBPJxoCQtcQAvD_BwE or the Shooting Range https://continentalgilbert.com/ are all next to each other by the San Tan Mall in Gilbert
The renaissance festival is in town from February til end of March https://arizona.renfestinfo.com/
Segway Tours in Old Town Scottsdale https://scottsdalesegwaytours.com/tours-offered/
Mini Golf or Go Garts at Golfland https://www.golfland.com/mesa/
Or just hiking in the Valley. Hiking is one of the most popular activities here so you should check out a trail or two. Of course golfing is also one of the most requested activity when visiting Phoenix.
AZ Science Center is really cool and great for kids https://azscience.org/
A tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s house and architecture school is a must https://franklloydwright.org/taliesin-west/
Medieval times dinner https://www.medievaltimes.com/scottsdale
If you visit between January and April don’t miss these events:
Ostrich Festival in Chandler
Phoenix Open Golf Tournament
Barrett Jackson Car Show
Spring Training Baseball – 15 teams participate throughout the valley on 10 different baseball fields
